Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Consumnes River College is offering courses in Geographic Information Systems. Geographic Information Systems allow for the convent display of large amounts of data that are associated with geographic locations. These courses offer students instruction in GIS concepts, using a standard, professional-grade GIS program (ArcView), obtaining real data to use in GIS (like digital data from the internet, paper maps, and GPS), and developing and presenting a student-initiated project using a GIS program. Four 1-unit courses are being offered, they are: 1. Geography 19A-Fundamentals of GIS Mon./Wed.-7 to 9:15p.m.; Jan 21-Feb. 26 2. Geography 19B-Intro to Using Desktop GIS Mon./Wed.-7 to 9:40p.m.; Mar. 3-April 9 3. Geography 19C-Projects Using Desktop GIS Mon./Wed.-7 to 9:40p.m.; April 21-May 30 4.
